Month Programs
African Mask History & Mask Craft Project:
Well known art from Africa. Through this project we help students connect with other cultures and understand how other cultures celebrate special ceremonies. Beyond the history, students get to make their own masks. By creating their own original mask each student gets to be inspired and experience cultural appropriation.
Kente Cloth Weaving Art Project: In this project, students will look at the history of Kente cloth, discover how they create these woven cloths, observe the colours and symbols used, and finally recreate their own version out of painted paper weaving.
African Pattern Drawing Workshop:
This project explains how to create patterns using geometric shapes and lines. Children will draw different African pattern and colour them with colour that represent the African. They will pick an object and make a decoration with the pattern learned. This workshop helps kids discover different tribe through pattern
Book Fair:
Offers student a range of exciting news books on African culture and history. We offer story telling for the younger ones children. For students from grade 1 to 8, they get to pick a book of their choice to read and participate in the Art project on Identity.
Djembe workshop:
students get to experience interactive African Djembe drumming lessons for small to large groups. They also get to make their own Djembe with plastic cups. Fun musical activity for team building.
African Wood Necklace Making:
African Tribal jewelry conveys not only a cultural outward appearance, but also reflects a way of life that is steeped in socio-cultural tradition. African Tribal jewelry also communicates messages about the wearer’s status, tribe, beliefs, age, and so on. In this workshop, students get to explore the beauty in Tribal colours and meanings. Lots of fun with wood and tools for making your own wooden jewellery
